In New York, when people speak of SoHo, words carry a very specific memory. In the 1970s, a guide described it as “The Place to Be”: an urban laboratory, a crossroads of visions. It is precisely from this legacy that Baxter’s new chapter begins.
At 152 Wooster Street, in the vibrant heart of the neighborhood, Baxter Gallery New York comes to life—the brand’s first flagship store in the city, an icon of Made in Italy and an international reference point in the world of leather furnishings.
More than an exhibition space, it is a place to inhabit and experience, conceived as a home-atelier capable of evoking and reinterpreting the bohemian spirit that made SoHo an icon.
A former 350-square-meter industrial loft, spread across two levels, has been restored and transformed into a true factory: a cultural hub open to planners, architects, and designers.
At street level, cast-iron columns restored to their original essence shape the space, dividing it into two distinct yet interconnected souls. On one side, the gallery: quiet, where matter barely breathes and takes form through leather sofas, iconic armchairs, and Baxter’s luxury furniture collections. Here, surfaces release subtle vibrations, while an imposing hand-decorated partition introduces a suspended dimension. This is where the latest creations take shape, alongside the pieces that have defined the brand’s identity for years.
On the other side lies the space for encounter, dominated by a custom-made seven-meter table—the true focal point of the Baxter design experience. Around this station unfolds a rich archive of leathers, surfaces, and textures in a continuous dialogue between materials, ideas, and possibilities.
The lower level reveals itself as an almost ritual, symbolic passage. A staircase enclosed within a mirrored monolith— a conceptual evocation of the minimalist art of Carl Andre—leads to a space that completes the narrative of the home-atelier. Here, every element contributes to expressing a total vision: a place that is both physical space and artistic manifesto.
