About Berbère

The hallmark of the Berbère rug is the complex manual technique used to work the wool, which recalls the traditional processes used for early-20th-century Berber Moroccan rugs. Each rug is spun and knotted entirely by hand on traditional vertical looms, and then finished with sophisticated handicraft techniques that result in unique pieces with their own identity. Skilled craftsmen scissor the surface of the pile to create the irregularities that distinguish each rug, then proceed with the characteristic patterns and side fringes woven one by one in the style of ancient Berber rugs. The black and white versions of the rug are made from undyed wool, while the other colours are produced using vegetable dyes.
